Backup Strategies for Darknet Users: Protecting Critical Data

Data loss on the darknet is permanent — there's no 'forgot password' or customer support. A comprehensive backup strategy is as important as encryption itself.

What to Back Up

PGP private keys (essential for identity). Cryptocurrency seed phrases and wallet files. KeePassXC password database. Tor hidden service private keys (hs_ed25519_secret_key). 2FA recovery codes. Any data that cannot be recovered if lost.

Physical Backups

Steel seed phrase backup (survives fire, water — products like Cryptosteel or Billfodl). Paper backups in sealed, waterproof bags.
