How to Spot a Darknet Market Exit Scam Before It Happens

Published: 2026-03-01 | Category: Security | Author: DarkLink.PRO Team

Exit scams are the most devastating events in the darknet ecosystem. Marketplace administrators steal all escrowed funds and disappear. Recognizing the warning signs can save you from significant financial loss.

Warning Sign 1: Withdrawal Delays

The most reliable early indicator. If withdrawals that normally process in hours start taking days, the marketplace may be accumulating funds. When multiple users report withdrawal delays simultaneously, treat it as a red flag.

Warning Sign 2: Forced Finalize Early

If a marketplace suddenly changes its escrow policy to require or encourage finalize-early (FE), they may be trying to push funds out of escrow and into their wallets before the exit.

Warning Sign 3: Staff Changes

Sudden disappearance of moderators, support staff going silent, reduced communication from administrators, and PGP key changes without explanation. Active staff often leave before an exit because they know what's coming.

Warning Sign 4: Technical Issues

Increasing downtime, image loading failures, slow performance. These could indicate the marketplace is running on minimal infrastructure as admins prepare to leave, or that user data is being exfiltrated.

When you see multiple warning signs, withdraw your funds immediately. Don't wait for confirmation.
