Decentralized Identity on the Darknet: Beyond Usernames

Web of Trust (WoT)

PGP's web of trust model: users sign each other's keys to establish trust chains. If you trust Alice, and Alice has signed Bob's key, you have some basis to trust Bob. This creates a decentralized, platform-independent trust network. No central authority can revoke your identity.

Portable Reputation

PGP-signed statements can prove identity across platforms. A vendor can prove they're the same entity on multiple forums by signing a message with their known PGP key. If a marketplace is seized, they can re-establish on a new platform instantly. The key — not the account — is the identity.

Emerging Solutions

Blockchain-based identity verification without revealing real-world data. Zero-knowledge proofs for establishing credentials ('I have 100+ successful transactions') without linking to specific accounts. Reputation tokens that can be transferred between platforms. These systems are still experimental but address real problems.
